Leading Publisher of Music Tie-In Comics and Graphic Novels Continues to Evolve With New Projects, New Logo and More
NEW YORK— Z2 Comics has been steadily building a reputation as the market leader of graphic fiction tied to musical releases. Whether expanding upon album or artist storylines, or building upon the legacy of past acts, the diverse publisher brings new readers into the comic book medium from demographics as varied as the music itself.
“It has been our belief that no other medium has more potential for bringing new readers into graphic literature than music, and especially now” says Z2 co-founder, Sridhar Reddy. “Music is truly universal, and unlike film, has not had to evolve its delivery or adapt to fit the current state of the world.”
Recently, Z2 Comics released its biggest title to date, Grateful Dead: Origins, to critical and audience acclaim alike. The publisher’s Charlie Parker biopic is already showing signs of being one of the year’s most critically acclaimed releases, already boasting a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly and today’s nod from the New York Times. Ahead an ambitious slate of fall releases, the company has already entered into an agreement with Simon & Schuster, Inc. to distribute its titles into the global book trade.
“While we continue to expand the integration with artists and musicians across our business, we wanted to reflect the excitement around our brand and the projects we are involved in, the best of which just may be yet to come” says Z2 publisher Josh Frankel. “We have entered into a new distribution partnership with Simon & Schuster ahead of our fall slate of releases, and it seemed the right time introduce the next phase of Z2’s evolution from comics publisher to vibrant entertainment brand.”
For the company’s rebrand, Z2 partnered with Brooklyn-based designer, Christina Nahas, whose previous work includes branding and logo design for MTV’s TRL relanch and rebrand, along with the 2018 relaunch of Loudwire, as well as design for the popular TV series Shameless.
