There are certain things that are relatively easy to understand, such as why fruit and vegetables are good for you and why laughing is the best medicine, for example. However, there are particular topics that most people would rather not get involved in, such as politics, things like CasinoPro no deposit bonuses when playing at a casino, and of course, the battle between DC Comics and Marvel. First Comics News has covered this over 22 years, and to this day, there’s no concrete answer. Before you continue though, it’s paramount that you understand the difference between the two, so let’s get into it right here.
In this segment, we’ll be discussing the reason DC Comics is extremely underrated when being compared to Marvel.
When it comes to video games, DC Comics has always had an edge, but over the last few years, it became clear which one was better. Marvel has had a few great games, especially with the classic Marvel vs. Capcom series and the latest Avengers video game that was released in 2020. However, the latter failed miserably due to microtransactions and the only popularity that Marvel received when it came to gaming was its partnership with Epic Games when a range of characters featured in the popular Fortnite video game.
When it comes to video games, DC Comics has destroyed Marvel, especially with titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Batman: Return to Arkham, DC Unchained, Injustice 2, Gotham Knights, and Infinite Crisis. The Batman series is enough to dismantle the entire Marvel video game portfolio and it remains one of the most popular games today.
Not only are DC Comics video games better from a technical perspective, but they’re also better overall, as they’ve developed a habit of incorporating great Easter Eggs into their titles that are linked to the comic books and other movies.
Superior Characters
If you ask anyone to name a superhero, their response will likely be “Superman” and for good reason. This is one of the most popular characters and has become a ‘benchmark’ for a range of pointless arguments. However, there are other great characters as well such as The Joker, Dick Grayson, Darkseid, Wally West, Shazam, Bane, Solomon Grundy, Batman, Gorilla Grodd, Lex Luthor, Batgirl, and many more.
Marvel does have strong characters in its lineup, but many of them are overused and have only gained popularity due to the recent mass of films that have made the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both parties are also guilty of ‘stealing’ characters from each other, with the X-Men based on Doom Patrol, Vision based on the Red Tornado, and the uncanny resemblance between Doctor Fate and Doctor Strange.
However, despite both brands ripping one another off, it was Marvel who got the better deal as they managed to create 50 characters that are based on existing DC characters.
We live in a day and age where television series are extremely popular and you’ll be surprised to find that many of them are part of DC Vertigo. DC Vertigo was founded in 1993 and has been around for 27 years before deemed defunct in January 2020. However, this adult version of DC created some of the best comics, characters, story arcs, and animated films. Some of the most popular characters include Lucifer Morningstar, John Constantine, The Saint of Killers, Jesse Custer, Dream, Swamp Thing, and Elaine Belloc.
While Marvel does have Icon Comics, it’s not on the level of Vertigo and it’s never seen the success that Vertigo had. DC Vertigo, despite being disbanded, will remain as one of the greatest extensions of the company. Some of the best films that DC Vertigo has produced include Constantine, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen,
