*Small spoilers, really fun read for the Halloween season.

The hit meta-horror comedy by Eisner-nominated writer Kyle Starks returns just in time for Halloween!

Come join us, friends, for it’s time to visit another gated community for slashers and meet a new cast of horrible monsters as we return to the world of Where Monsters Lie. Connor Hayes, final girl turned apex monster hunter, has been brought to Site B and expected to be a good little killer, but will he cooperate? And what sort of bone-tingling secrets inhabit this new horror hamlet?

Alright, let’s dive into Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac #1. If you haven’t experienced Kyle Starks’ blend of meta-horror and comedy yet, this one’s a wild ride. Just in time for spooky season, we’re back in a world that’s twisted in all the right ways. This issue introduces us to Site B—another gated community where your worst nightmares hang out like it’s a suburban block party. Only here, the neighbors are the kind of monsters you don’t want to meet at the mailbox.

Connor Hayes, our final girl turned monster hunter, is expected to play along with the murderous crowd. The tension of whether she’ll comply adds a nice edge, but the real fun is in the dark humor and bone-chilling secrets lurking around this new horror haven. It’s sharp, cutting right through the tropes in a way that’s both funny and brutal.

I’ve got to say, I’m hooked. The story hits just the right mix of creepy and absurd, and Piotr Kowalski’s art complements it perfectly. It’s like the visuals are daring you to laugh, then slice you with that sudden twist of horror. If you’re into horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers the scares, this is it. Every line of dialogue has bite, and every page has something lurking, ready to get under your skin.

This might just be my favorite horror comic right now. It’s sharp, it’s twisted, and I loved every moment.
