Dublin, July 2024, Unpopular Studio, a visionary transmedia collective, is excited to announce the launch of their Kickstarter campaign for the highly anticipated comic series, “Pinochia”. Running from July 18th to August 18th, 2024, this campaign invites backers to join an epic journey through a post-apocalyptic world where the lines between man and machine blur, and the future of humanity hangs in the balance.
About “Pinochia”
“Pinochia” (aka Pia) is more than a story; it is a powerful exploration of human nature, technological evolution, and the quest for redemption. Set in a dystopian reality, the narrative unfolds after the cataclysmic war between humans and machines. The few surviving humans are scattered, hiding from their mechanical overlords in the last remaining enclaves: Liberty City, hidden underwater, and NewTown, concealed deep underground.
Pinochia, a machine crafted from recycled and spare parts, was designed to restore peace and balance in this fractured world. Through training and modifications throughout her journey, Pia grows stronger and more lethal. As she evolves, she learns about human nature and uncovers the true reasons behind the conflict. The ultimate question she faces is: Do humans deserve a second chance, or should they be relegated to mere subjects of research and labour?
Key Characters
Pinochia (Pia): A 12-year-old girl-like machine made from recycled parts. She appears unfinished but evolves with new parts, improved armour, and simulated skin and hair. Fierce, curious, and driven by a deep sense of purpose, Pia is vital to the planet’s harmony.
Lex: An ex-personal assistant house robot extensively modified. Small, curious, and fiercely loyal, Lex forms a strong bond with Pia.
Little Man: An industrial robot primarily used for heavy machinery and transportation. Values honour and simplicity and speak little.
Ishtar: An ex-sex worker android with human flesh imitation prostheses. Always classy and talkative, she brings unique insights and perspectives.
E2: The first of several AI programs integrated into Pia’s BIOS, aiding her in combat, speed, and equilibrium training.
Series Overview
The story of “Pinochia” is divided into four captivating issues. This first one will be in The Dumpster, Where Pia meets her key allies, including Lex, Ishtar, Little Man, and Sio, a half-robot striving to become more human. Pia undergoes her first significant upgrades and tests her new skills in a crucial battle.
The Creative Team
Christian Douglas (Writer): Raised amidst a blend of cultural influences, Christian’s storytelling is enriched by his globetrotting childhood. He draws inspiration from masters like Alan Moore and Frank Miller, aiming to create a narrative as impactful as Neil Gaiman’s works.
Claudio Sanchez Viveros (Artist): An accomplished illustrator from Almería, Spain, Claudio has a rich portfolio, including the comic adaptation of the Spanish classic “Don Juan Tenorio”. His artistic talent brings “Pinochia” to life with vivid detail and emotion.
