TKO STUDIOS PARTNERS WITH MACRO TO PRODUCE ADAPTATION OF GRAPHIC NOVEL ‘THE BANKS’ BY ROXANE GAY AND MING DOYLE

Los Angeles, CA – (Wednesday, August 12, 2020) America’s fastest growing graphic novel publisher TKO Studios has partnered with MACRO to produce a film adaptation of TKO’s graphic novel ‘THE BANKS’ written by New York Times bestseller Roxane Gay (Hunger, Bad Feminist) and drawn by Ming Doyle (The Kitchen).

THE BANKS tells the story of three generations of female master thieves in Chicago who must mend their differences to embark on a heist of a lifetime and avenge a loved one taken too soon.

Launched in 2015 by Charles D. King, MACRO is a multi-platform media company representing the voice and perspectives of people of color. The company’s film projects have received nine Oscar nominations. MACRO co-financed the critically-acclaimed MUDBOUND, FENCES, ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ. SORRY TO BOTHER YOU and JUST MERCY. It also produced Netflix’s TIGERTAIL and co-financed and produced the upcoming JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH film for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Roxane Gay said, “I am thrilled to revisit the world of The Banks. Clara, Cora, and Celia Banks are fierce women with compelling stories that will really come alive on the silver screen. I am also excited about partnering with TKO Studios, an amazing publisher to create comics with, and MACRO, a company that is a standard bearer for excellence with the films they make.”

TKO Studios, co-founded by entrepreneur Salvatore Simeone and TV Showrunner Tze Chun (Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai), launched in 2018 with what the New York Times called “an impressive slate of talent.” With a growing library of IP, TKO ranks in Shopify’s top 1% of e-commerce companies. They were recently nominated Publisher of The Year by Tripwire Magazine and earned an Eisner Award nomination for their bestselling series SENTIENT.

Roxane Gay is set to write the script and will also serve as Executive Producer. Producers include MACRO’s Charles D. King, Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson; TKO Studios’ Salvatore Simeone, Tze Chun and Jatin Thakker.
