This Comic Will Corrupt You! Help Fund Canadian Crime #1!

From Contrabrand Media, Canadian Crime #1 is a 48-page all-Canadian Crime anthology with new comics by Jeff RobertsonJon Moretta, and Lia Taylor, with an original cover by Canadian comics and animation legend: Dwellings creator Jay Stephens!

Canadian Crime #1 will also feature an essay on the surprising history of Canada’s laws surrounding comic books. The historical essay written by Jeff Robertson will cover Canada’s moral panic over comic books, the Canadian Criminal Code, and why for a time, it deemed any comics depicting crime obscene regardless of motive.

One of the goals of Canadian Crime#1 is to shine a light on a little known Canadian moral panic that had long-lasting effects on Canadian comic creators, and at Contrabrand we believe in Free Speech and rooting out hatred, which is why 10% of the total funds raised during this campaign will be donated to The Canadian Anti-Hate Network and The Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund.

Canadian Crime #1 will be printed for an August release as a black & white, stapled, magazine-sized comic book on newsprint with a glossy cover, in tribute to the black and white Canadian comics of the 1940s known as Canadian Whites.

If a punk song was a comic, it’d be this 12-page story from Jon Moretta.
