THE YELLOW KID TO CELEBRATE 125TH BIRTHDAY IN ALL NEW COMIC BOOK
“We originally wanted to do a release of the Yellow Kid #1 way back in the spring of 2020,” Writer/Publisher, CHRIS YAMBAR explains, “But we had a pesky pandemic that slowed down its release. Luckily, we are able to do a proper release through direct market comic book stores this November instead. The book, Published by Moordam Comics, will be on shelves in America, Canada, Mexico and Europe, which is pretty exciting.

On February 17, 1895 R.F. Outcault’s character, the Yellow Kid, first appeared in print in Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World. In time, the character found himself in the center of a heated battle between Pulitzer and newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, who wanted the character for his own publication, New York Journal. As a result, the Yellow Kid appeared in both publications at the same time. The Yellow Kid proved to be incredibly popular and soon appeared as an advertising icon on everything from whisky and cigars to children’s toys and chewing gum. The comic strip marked the first use of word balloons, sequential storytelling, and multipanel layout, and is considered to be a pioneer in American newspaper comic strip history. To celebrate his 125th birthday, the iconic character is returning in his first, full length comic book, Hully Gee It’s the Yellow Kid, written by Chris Yambar and illustrated by Randy Bish (published by Moordam Comics).
Chris is from Youngstown, OH. He has worked in the comic book industry with characters such as The Simpsons, Mr. Magoo, Popeye, and Spongebob Squarepants. He is considered by many to be the Godfather of independent comics with his own titles including, Mr. Beat, El Mucho Grande, Fire-Breathing Pope, and others.
Randy is an award-winning veteran editorial cartoonist from Greensburg, PA, syndicated by Pennsylvania News Media, Cagle Cartoons, and the Fourth Estate. He served as the cartoonist of the Tribune-Review for over 30 years.
