Coming to Kickstarter on Monday, October 19th is THE PEACEKEEPERS, a brooding and decidedly wicked crime drama that pulls no punches, that suffers no fools, that repeatedly gets knocked down, but always gets back up again with a smile. It’s an utterly treacherous comic dance that has already been banned in three States AND Puerto Rico.

All hell breaks loose in quaint a northern Michigan community when a team of in-over-their- heads bank robbers kills a beloved Sheriff’s Deputy. In a small town with BIG secrets, local detective Richard Holton races to peel back the layers of a depraved down-home conspiracy before the bungling Federal Agents assigned to the case send everyone involved to ground.

Creator Rylend Grant describes The Peacekeepers as “a dark, quirky crime drama in the vein of Fargo or No Country for Old Men. It’s an ode to case-a-season police dramas like True Detective and The Wire, to Elmore Leonard novels, and to comic masterpieces
like Criminal and 100 Bullets.” Now, tell us that doesn’t sound intriguing.

The film comparisons flow freely and easily from Grant, a screenwriter by trade, with a decade’s worth of experience penning smart, character-driven action movies for the likes of JJ Abrams, Ridley Scott, Justin Lin, Luc Besson, and John Woo. Collider recently announced that Grant’s first comic book – the political action thriller Aberrant (published by Action Lab: Danger Zone) – is being developed for television by 24 & Felicity Executive Producer Tony Krantz.

Aberrant won a prestigious Mike Wieringo Comic Book Award (“Ringo Award”) in 2019 for BEST VILLAIN and was nominated for two others… BEST SINGLE ISSUE and Grant was nominated for BEST WRITER along-side first ballot hall of famers like Jeff Lemire, Scott Snyder, Brian K. Vaughan, and Brian Michael Bendis. Grant’s most recent book – a dark super hero noir titled Banjax – made over a dozen critics ten-best lists in 2019 and was just nominated for four 2020 Ringo Awards including BEST SERIES.

This isn’t Grant’s first Kickstarter campaign. He raised over $15,000 back in July with a high concept sci-fi thriller titled The Jump. He’s part of a recent wave of high-profile creators – including Scott Synder, David F. Walker, and friend David Pepose – to enthusiastically take to the platform. “Kickstarter is such a wonderous comic book playground right now. There’s a wildly enthusiastic and delightfully interactive fanbase there. I had such a blast running my first campaign and I honestly couldn’t wait to launch the next one.”

Well, the “next one” is a doozy. There is plenty of fun waiting this go round for backers of THE PEACEKEEPERS… three amazing film-slanted variant covers (homages to the aforementioned FargoPoint Break, and Michael Mann’s Heat), original art and commission opportunities from Aberrant artist Davi Leon Dias, the chance to actually appear as a character in the book or on a cover, and the chance to come onto the film and TV property as a producer. “We pulled out all the stops for this one,” said Grant. “We wanted to make this one of the most epic Kickstarter campaigns in recent memory and so we left nothing on the table.”
