In the comic book world, where those who love the classics and love to have a good read through the comics released years ago. However, there is another group of devotees that live for new comics and enjoy the innovative graphics and storylines. This year is proving to be one of the most exciting in the industry and with so much to look forward to, we have taken the liberty of picking out the ones not to be missed in 2018.

Bingo Love

If you have done any research at all into comics this year, especially on social media platforms like Twitter, there is no way you won’t have heard about Bingo Love. This lovely comic was released just in time for Valentine’s Day and follows the tale of two women who fell in love in their teens in the early 1960s and are then reunited over a game of bingo in their elderly years. It’s very unconventional, which is very needed, as how many comics, especially romance comics tell the tale of older gay black women in love. It is good thing the internet and mobile were not fully developed then, as they would have probably been enjoying their bingo at mFortune on their mobile device!

X Men: Grand Design

Marvel is really trying to get X-Men up and running again and this comic has proved to be quite a success. It has actually proven that there are still legs yet in some of the classics, so don’t write them off. This comic is pretty simple, but gripping. It is a revised version of the whole X-Men history, in a unified and grittily illustrated way. It does come off as a very fitting tribute to a legendary comic story and shows that superhero publishers should take the plunge sometimes and take more risks with their characters.

The Prince and The Dressmaker

Even though it might sound like it based upon the title it is not a typical pauper meets royalty tale of romance. It is a beautiful graphic novel which tells the story of seamstress Frances who shocks the fashion world by designing a dress that completely rocks Paris. This dress is seen by the prince Sebastian and he immediately hires Frances to make dresses for him to wear. This story of the cross-dressing Prince and the girl who makes it possible for him to live this life is touching.

East of West

If you are looking for the Game of Thrones answers to comics, this is the one you want. It is a post-apocalyptic fantasy Western tale. It is sometimes difficult to follow the story, due to the number of different characters and going ons, but that is the fun of reading any comic that is penned by Jonathan Hickman. This series looks set to continue and is getting closer to a pretty epic climax it appears

My Boyfriend Is A Bear

This comic provides an amusing, yet thought-provoking insight into the world of modern dating. It follows an unusual blossoming relationship between a bear and a human woman after they meet in the woods. The bear is used as a metaphor for finding someone and falling in love with them who doesn’t meet the expectation of society, your friends or your family, but makes you extremely happy. This comic has a very playful spirit, mixed with gorgeous animated artwork.
