Superman is the original superhero. He represents a special place in the history of comics, as the first, greatest, and most successful character created in the golden age of comics. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are the only Golden Age superheroes that have remained in constant continuous publication since their launch. Superman began life in April 1938 under the guidance of writer Jerry Seigle and artist Joe Shuster and has never looked back.
Superman has starred in Comics, Newspapers, Stage, Movies, Television, Video Games, and Online Gaming. He is the symbol of hope and has been more adaptable than any other character over the last 85 years. Superman is a character that generations recognize and with for the foreseeable future.

Superman, was rocket to Earth as the lone survivor of the doomed planet Krypton. Jor-El his father was scientist who discovered that the series of quakes that Krypton was experiencing were actually destroying the plant. When he took his finding to ministers of government they did not believe him. On his own Jor-El built a small prototype rocket to prove interstellar flight was possible. Before a larger ship could be built Krypton started to self-destruct and Jor-El placed his infant son in the rocket so that he would survive the destruction of Krypton.
The tiny rocket crashlanding on Earth. There an elderly farm couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, discovered the rocket and found the baby inside. The couple took him in as their own child, naming him Clark after Martha’s maiden name. They claimed to have been snow bound for the winter and Martha gave birth on the farm.
On Earth with our yellow sun and lighter gravity, Clark Kents Kryptonian physiology began to develop differently. His body was like a battery being charged with the energy of the yellow sun giving him powers and abilities greater than the average man. Many compared his speed to that of a bullet and his capabilities mean that he could leap over tall buildings in one bound. Not to mention the fact he was more powerful than a large vehicle.
After graduating from Smallville High School, he studied journalism at Metropolis University. Eventually getting a job as a reporter for the Daily Planet. As a reporter, he would be the first to hear about dangers and disasters and could respond as Superman while maintain a secret identity as mild monored reporter Clark Kent.
Beginning in January 1939, a Superman The Daily Comic Strip appeared in newspapers, syndicated through the McClure Syndicate. A color Sunday version was added that November. By 1941, the newspaper strips had an estimated readership of 20 million. The strip ended in 1983 with a 33-year run with a gap between ’66 and ’77. Many early fans saw Superman for free in the newspaper before they saw him in the comics.
The Adventures of Superman Radio Show ran from 1940 to 1951 for 2,088 episodes, the majority were created for children. Episodes were originally 15 minutes long, however after 1949 they increased the episodes length to 30 minutes. Most episodes were filmed live, which was custom for the radio at the time of production. You can still listen to the episodes that were recorded and Apple has them on their podcast list
It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman was the Superman stage play. This featured the music produced by Charles Strouse and the lyrics from Lee Adams. The book was created by Robert Benton and David Newman. The actor Bob Holiday played the character of Clark Kent, and the actress Patricial Marand played the iconic role of Lois Lane.
In the movie theaters, Superman started with Fleischer Studios Superman cartoons. Seventeen episodes were made.
