Beefeater – DC Comics
Michael Morice’s family had produced the original superhero Beefeater during the Second World War. Armed with his Power Stick, the original had been able to help fight Axis forces.
Michael inherited the Power Stick and decided to help out. Never a highly competent superhero, he was nonetheless a strong enough personality to press on and was rewarded with his position as metahuman jailor, a role suited to his temperament.
Captain Britain – Marvel
Brian Braddock is the champion of the British Isles and its people. Endowed with mystical powers by the Amulet of Right given to him by the legendary sorcerer Merlyn and his daughter Roma. He was assigned to be the protector of Earth-616 for the Captain Britain Corps an interdimensional organization that guards the Omniverse, powered by energies from the Otherworld, a realm created from the collective consciousness and will of the British People.
Captain Britain – Marvel Comics
Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock is a British mutant telepath who has acted both alongside the X-Men as Psylocke and as a champion for Otherworld as Captain Britain. While her twin brother Brian became the original Captain Britain, Betsy developed psychic powers. By serving in S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi Division, her path as a secret agent crossed with her brother’s superhero activities. She acted as an ally to her brother in several conflicts, eventually adopting the Captain Britain mantle.
Jack Staff – Image Comics
Jack Staff is Britain’s Greatest Hero and has been active since at least WWII. While he has revealed he has been around since the Victorian Age, it is unknown if he was active as a superhero or similar adventurer. In his civilian identity, he works as a builder by the name of John Smith, it is unknown if this is his real name.
It has been mentioned by other characters that Jack’s record of success is a bit iffy; he often gets beaten up by supervillains and ends up in embarrassing or dangerous situations, such as being set up to be arrested by the Spider.
Lionheart – Marvel Comics
Kelsey Leigh was originally a single mother of two children living in South-East England. She worked as an English Literature and History teacher. Back when she was married, thugs invaded her home. One of them attempted to rape her: she fought back, hurting him and he cut her face with a broken bottle in revenge, scarring her permanently. Meanwhile, her husband, Richard, was too paralyzed with fear to help her. His guilt over that incident led to the dissolution of the marriage.
One day she and her family were involved in a brawl between the Avengers and the Wrecking Crew. When Captain America and Wasp were knocked unconscious Kelsey used his shield to defend him from a death blow delivered by Thunderball. Despite blocking the blow, the force of the impact caused her severe internal injuries and she died en route to medical facilities. She awoke in a ring of stones and was visited by a vision of Captain Britain, who was then ruler of Otherworld, and his wife Meggan and offered her the choice: The Amulet of Right or The Sword of Might. As she desperately wanted to see her children again she chose the sword as a means of defending her children. However, this was the path of violence, and as a result, the only way she could see her children was at the cost of their lives. When she returned to Earth and took the mantle of Captain Britain, she helped the Avengers defeat Morgan Le Fay and her forces. Kelsey was shown to be much more violent in her methods than her predecessor. When ‘re-united’ with Thunderball, the man who killed her, she impaled him on her blade, apparently killing him. She joined the Avengers so that she would be close to her children who were now in their care.
Spider-Punk – Marvel Comics
Spider-Punk was the original design for Spider UK. The design was later repurposed as Spider-Punk. Hobie Brown from Earth-138 lives in a fascist corporate America, where youth culture is obsessed with music and constantly fights for their freedom. It led him to punk rock, which unlocked his inner rage and inspired him to fight back against the elites of his world. He lived by two rules: No Gods. No Masters. As a teenage squatter, he was bitten by a spider irradiated by OsCorp’s toxic waste dumping. With his new powers and inspiration from his punk rock idol, the late Gwen Stacy, he became the Anarchic Spider-Man, leading protests into the streets against President Norman Osborn and his stormtroopers, The Thunderbolts Department. He smashed the president’s head in and ripped off his mask, revealing himself to his world. This got the attention of The Superior Spider-Man, who recruited him for the first army of Spider-Man variants, eventually known as the Web Warriors.
Spider UK – Marvel Comics
Billy Braddock was a member of the Captain Britain Corps who had become disturbed by a nagging feeling which caused him to investigate the cause. Eventually, while scouring the Multiverse, he learned of the Inheritors and how they were hunting down Spider-Heroes/Heroines for what seemed to be for sport. Taking this new-found knowledge with him he appealed to the Captain Britain Corps for aid but they refused as they were too busy dealing with the Incursions.
