It was a rainy red carpet event at the Yonge-Dundas Square where the DC Comics Shazam! movie folks set up a fan experience event to celebrate the release of the David F. Sandberg directed movie and the start of the 2019 Toronto Comicon. The weather didn’t spoil the mood for the crowd of fans ready to catch a glimpse of the actors.
The red carpet featured special appearances by the film’s stars Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Mark Strong (Dr. Sivana), Asher Angel (Billy Batson), Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy Freeman), and the aforementioned director, David F. Sandberg. All the actors interacted with local media answering questions and posing for photos.
Another cool item was a recreation of the cave where Billy Batson first meets the Wizard Shazam (played in the movie by Djimon Hounsou). You entered through a subway train car door into the “vast” cavern giving participants a fun fan experience. Inside were authentic props from the film which was shot in Toronto. Passes for the movie as well as other swag-like prizes were given out.
In case you missed it today the event, sponsored in part by Fan Expo HQ, Toronto Comicon, and Warner Bros, continues tomorrow, Friday, March 15 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The 2019 Toronto Comicon is on at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from March 15th to the 17th. Check out the Comicon’s website at www.comicontoronto.com for times, special events, celebrity guests coming and to purchase tickets.
