SAG • AFTRA AND VIDEO GAME PERFORMERS TALK AI AT NYCC; NEGOTIATIONS WITH INDUSTRY TO CONTINUE

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 16, 2023) – Coming off of a weekend appearance at New York Comic Con that included members of the Interactive Media Agreement committee and National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA announced today that Interactive Media Agreement negotiations would continue with new dates to be released as soon as they are determined.

Saturday’s panel at New York Comic Con covered how AI is threatening performers across the entertainment and media industry with special focus on the existential threat generative AI poses to voice performers in video games. Video game actors are particularly vulnerable to having their likeness, voices and performances stolen without informed consent or fair compensation.

Speaking to fans and industry at the panel, Crabtree-Ireland spoke to the impact of the recent strikes and the power of the public.

“We can stand up and say this is the kind of world we want to live in. This is the kind of content we want, which is authentic content that’s not made by ripping people off, whether it’s voices or images or anything else. That is within our power. All we have to do is say no and stand up and stand together.”
