Get ready for your new obsession… MOTORCYCLE JOUSTING!

Fate brutally separated Avery Sakai from her girlfriend Nico Xing, but acceptance at Bridleham Academy might be just the thing to bring them back together. As it turns out though, Nico’s extracurriculars are the last thing Avery expected.

Now to win a chance at love, Avery will need to throw herself into the violent but captivating world of the motorcycle jousting fight club known as the Seismic Ironclash Roulette!

Ringo Award-nominated, indie darling cartoonist Fell Hound (Commander Rao, And We Love You) brings an over-the-top sports and battle anime energy to BOOM! Box!

Motorcycle jousting, sure, why not! The premise of S.I.R. #1 is bold, but the execution doesn’t quite match up to the potential. The story starts with Avery Sakai, who’s dealing with the pain of being separated from her girlfriend, Nico Xing. Acceptance at Bridleham Academy seems like a step in the right direction until Avery finds out that Nico’s extracurricular activity is nothing short of wild—motorcycle jousting in a fight club called Seismic Ironclash Roulette. Sounds epic, right?

Sadly, this issue spends more time on Avery’s feelings than on the action. The motorcycle jousting scenes are minimal, which is a letdown for anyone hoping for some high-octane thrills. The art doesn’t help either; it’s mediocre and lacks the polish needed for a concept this wild. It feels like the comic is trying to channel the vibe of George A. Romero’s Knightriders, a 1981 film about motorcycle jousting, but it falls short of capturing the same magic.

If you’re looking for intense jousting action, you might want to stick with Knightriders instead. S.I.R. #1 had the ingredients for something exciting, but it just doesn’t deliver.
