Uncle Sam is presented here as a man wandering the streets. He also has flashbacks to an earlier time. The art is amazing; it has to be seen to be believed.
Uncle Sam is looking at how the U.S.A. is run and how things work as he lives on the street like a homeless person. The U.S.A. has a reputation for mistreating others such as racism towards people of color and natives. Many other injustices have happened or are still happening.
The story shifts back and forth in time from past to present. Uncle Sam throughout the story acts as a man of honor and treats all others with respect. He is looking for answers to what is happening to him.
The facial expressions on Uncle Sam’s face are intense. He is an emotional man.
A woman named Bea plays a big role here. Uncle Sam sort of remembers her and keeps meeting her. Also, a bear appears. They are symbols as is Uncle Sam.
Uncle Sam takes us on a tour through history and the modern day showing us what is wrong and right with America. Not everything it has achieved is easy. But yes it is a country worth fighting for.
Alex Ross’s art makes every page here a delight to see. He creates masterpieces.
