Comments: As Solomon Kane is first shown he is a man of action. On the Barbary Coast he is a privateer in her Majesty’s Service. Solomon is unsure if he is fighting on the side of good. While fighting he makes a promise and he goes on a quest to keep it.
The reader is treated to a view of the time period and the people who inhabite it. The time period is portayed well. The landscape of Africa is breathtaking.
This issue does set up the coming issues and the story they will tell. This issue while interoducing you to the characters does drag on a little and is unclear about what some of their parts will be.
The dead body does hint at what foes Solomon will be fighting.
The poses we see Solomon Kane in are dynamic and with gun and sword in hand you know he is ready for a fight.
Solomon Kane is a man of God. His conviction though does not come through as convincing as you might expect, he has doubts in his actions. He is not convinced what he does is always right.
The art though will draw you in and hold you in its grasp.
