Comments: Charlie Mingus is a muscian. The story mentions about unions for muscians and wanting to join the black one and the white one. The art is boring, it is done in black, grey, white and yellow tones. It has a flat look to it.
The story mentions and shows intergration in schools. The story does not talk much about music at all. About two thirds into the book they finally tell you Mingus makes Jazz music.
You get some insight into Mingus just not much at all into his music. The stry is told in parts which for the most part do not tie in together.
There is a woman Sue shown with Charles near the end. Who is she? His wife? A dear friend? It does not say.
There are towers of bottles and a man who makes them and we see Charles as a youbg boy visiting him bring him more bottles. Why? What does this have to do with the story?
The last chapter here has Charles playing his music. This is a good portrayal of him. It shows he loves his music and does not care what is going on around him.
More needed to be said about Charles Mingus and his achievements. Here he is shown as just a man. Not the legend he really is.
