RICH INTERVIEWS: Tony Klapper Creator/Writer of FiveStar, Co-Writer Power Company

First Comics News: What part does FiveStar play in “Power Company”?

Tony Klapper: FiveStar is the field leader in Power Company. This job is something he doesn’t take lightly, although it can be very stressful getting everyone on the same page as readers will see in issue #1.

1st: Can you describe FiveStar’s personality and his powers and or abilities?

Tony: Kevin Terry was a hero to some long before he took on the mantle of super-hero, working with the youth of his community, trying to make a difference. Kevin is a natural athlete, a quick learner, and born with the gift to be a leader. He has a big heart and deeply cares for others.

-Powers.

As FiveStar – FiveStar’s body absorbs the natural energy around him using it to regenerate his health and for combat including- energy blast, aura’s and energy fist. FiveStar’s body always has a thin energy aura around it making him durable enough to take a bullet a point-blank range, strong enough to pick up a school bus with ease and fly fast enough to break the sound barrier. The more threatened he feels or energy he uses the more energy his body takes in and the stronger he gets until he reaches an overpowered state, where his body becomes pure energy. In this state FiveStar’s power is limitless but on the downside, once he comes down off this power high he rendered unconscious for up to 12 hours.

1st: How did your character of FiveStar come to join up with Power Company?

Tony: FiveStar was actually the first character in PC. Before we even had a team name. I and Carlos Raphael started the team and recruited the other members.

1st: In “FiveStar # 1” what is the story plot?

Tony: FiveStar #1 is one of four issues that are the intro to his world. The first four issues will lay out his backstory and set up the future of the series.

1st: When can we expect a “FiveStar # 2”?

Tony: Yes!!! We hope to release #2-#4 this year.

1st: Who is the villain or villains in the “FiveStar” comic?

Tony: FiveStar takes place in a world where heroes and villains have been around for a long time. That’s what’s fun for the reader. As Kevin Terry is trying to make a mark in the world the world gets revealed to the reader. So you can expect to see a lot of awesome characters throughout the series.

1st: Why are you apart of Crazy Monkey Ink and Nevaland Comix?

Tony: Nevaland is my brand, it is where all my characters fall under. Crazy Monkey Ink is my publisher. Gabriel Ol Raz Ramirez, who is founded CMI, and I linked up early 2017. He loves FiveStar and is one of the books biggest supporters. I wouldn’t have made it this far without him.

1st: How did you come up with the idea for FiveStar?

Tony: The basic idea for FiveStar is something I’ve had since I was a kid. When I started to get serious about writing I knew I wanted a character who felt real. I remember thinking to myself who are people I know that are real-life heroes. Kevin Terry is based off two of my close friends, that are both preachers, teachers, coaches, and heroes in the community.

1st: What message is in “Fivestar”?

Tony: FiveStar brings the reader a strong African American male that was already a hero before getting his powers. He is trying to make his mark in the world but also not lose himself with all the new found fame of being a superhero.

1st: Do you have any ideas for other comics?

Tony: Yes, I have few things in the works. No major details at the moment. FiveStar is the focus.

1st: Who would you like to see teamed up with Fivestar out of all the super-heroes you know?

Tony: In the Indy world Mega Woman. In the big 2, it would be awesome to see FiveStar team up with Superman.

1st: If you have one superpower what would it be and why have it?

Tony: Super Speed!! There is just so much you can do with it.

1st: Who provides you with the most support in achieving your goals?

Tony: My wife Leah Klapper. She supports me in everything I do.

1st: Any words for those who love reading your comics?

Tony: I just want to say thank you so much for all the love and support, and we have only just begun. We have so much more coming.
