COMMENTS: There are two stories in this comic. Mister Web is on one side, it is a comic set up in a pulp style world of 1938. It is a Cain and Abel story of a good brother and an evil brother. The good brother John Bradford who is also Mister Web. The evil brother Tom Bradford is a criminal who befriends Henery Bishop, the Brain King while in prison. The two break out of prison with the Death Archer and two con men. Mister Web and Trixie the girl of 1,000 tricks battle the prison escapees with mixed results. The story continues into Mr. Web #2.
It was a fun well-paced origin story. There are a lot of character introductions and they all have to be set up as well as the relationships between the characters. It was a full 23 pages and left you wanting to read the next chapter.
The other side is Wonder Squad. In Wonder Squad it was part 3 of a multi-part story. So I only know the middle chapter. Brad Hyman is a one-man show here providing his vision of a superhero team. We start to see the team begin to form but it’s a little unfair to review a middle part of a story when I am not entirely sure what is going on. For what I did see Brad has a team in mind and it’s starting to gell. The members are coming together against a common foe. There was a surprise twist at the end of the prior issue that I missed that would have made the story more impactful. It was well-paced enough that I will check out the two prior issues to read the full story.
