SUMMARY: Byfford Stone IV comes from a long line of monster hunters. It was the family business, but Biff –the hard-drinking, fast-living black sheep of the famous monster-hunting Stones– pushed his luck just a little too far one day and found himself trapped in an extra-dimensional hellscape where time had no meaning. When he finally stumbled his way to freedom, decades had passed. Almost everyone he’d known was dead and no one was wearing leisure suits anymore. But there are still monsters to be hunted and Biff has a very unique skill set.
COMMENTS: Biff Stone is different, he was originally created by Lou Cameron in 1953 however, comic fans are more familiar with Nicola Cuti & Joe Staton’s Monster Hunter from the comic of the same name. These two characters are nothing alike. Also, the Gallant version of Biff Stone is still different. Think Tom Selleck of Magnum P.I., and if you think Jay Hernandez is Magnum P.I. this might not be the comic for you. There is a nice introduction to Biff Stone, he is a hard-drinking action hero straight out of a Stephen J. Cannell series. He is looking for interdimensional monsters on Friday the 13th. There is a bigger mystery here too in that we don’t know exactly who he is working for and we don’t know what happened to him in all his missing years. It’s fun in a very retro fashion and left me with more questions than answers. I am looking forward to Monster Hunter #2
