SUMMARY: Life in Hell ain’t easy! Demons try to torture you for all eternity. Monsters want to eat you. There’s a stunning lack of reliable indoor plumbing. And it’s almost impossible to get ice cream. At least until today, when three condemned teens and their annoying tagalong demon frenemy embark on a daring scheme to hijack a demon lord’s delivery truck. What happens next will take them on an epic journey across the underworld, an infernal excursion of non-stop excitement, danger, and adventure.
COMMENTS: In this comic, we meet our heroes, a group of kids who have died and been sent to Hell for various reasons. We have Alexander Waterford, a frog-hater that enjoyed abusing frogs until he had a run-in with the devil frog BufoBeelz, who drowned him and sent him to Hell. Due to the nature of his death, he seems to be able to vomit up anything that the heroes might need.
Next up is Midori Fukada, a teenage former Yakuza assassin (think Go-Go in Kill Bill) who killed 23 Yakuza soldiers in one night before falling to her father in battle. She is very good at killing things with a hatchet.
Which is good, because our next hero is Ernie Comstock, who was killed by a cursed ax and can now pull an infinite number of them from his head.
Finally, we have BlaphaDagon, a tag-along demon kid and son of the Hell Lord Balaphendyr. BlaphaDagon has demonic strength, can breathe fire, produce smoke and sulfur, and probably more powers we have not seen.
In this issue, our heroes try to steal a truckload of ice cream even though it’ll taste bad, being Hell ice cream and all, but things take a turn when they find out what the ice cream truck is really hauling.
So, I really enjoyed the issue. It was like reading a really messed up Saturday morning cartoon, and I found all the kids to be likeable and the twist ending to be very intriguing. I can’t wait for issue 2!
