REVIEW CORNER: Time For Dimensional Robin Episode 01

Time For Dimensional Robin
Episode 01 – “The Anti-Pilot” (2025)

Rating:

Since most people know me for my comic reviews, this is the first time in a while that I”ve done a review for a series, especially one that’s just getting off the ground. Still, although I’m not particularly educated about the entertainment industry, as a comedy enthusiast, I understand what’s unique.

This new series, created by the husband and wife team of Everett Ray Aponte and Josephine Hies, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at WonderCon a few weeks ago, describes this show as a mixture of “Doctor Who” and “Rick and Morty.” It starts with Marvin Faraday (Aponte), a local cable guy on a service call, who gets involved with Dr. Robin Everett (Hies), a scientist who has built a hadron collider in her living room that can travel to different dimensions from her couch. Naturally, any longtime “Rick and Morty” fan, or just a fan of sitcoms, knows that hilarity will ensue – and it does! Right away, Aponte and Hies exhibit charming yet edgy chemistry in their interactions, conveying that they are an extremely mismatched duo. However, watching their personalities bounce off one another prevents them from truly being a “Rick and Morty” knockoff (And I might add that they have both Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively beat in the likability department). We even get a quick flashback to how Marvin met Robin to ensure no one gets lost in following the plot structure of this pilot. Another funny factor is that Marvin and Robin converse (and eat) backward, which shows some David Lynch influence that only adds to the hilarity of this premise (He would be proud of this). Yes, there is a small gross moment in this episode, but it doesn’t derail the humor; instead, it embraces it in a way that doesn’t draw too much attention. While the “Doctor Who” influence is peppered throughout the pilot, it can be said that there are numerous influences that help shape this series, from the “Back to the Future” trilogy to “Sliders,” the forgotten gem of the 90 s that made good use of time travel. Time For Dimensional Robin is a fun series that introduces us to two amazing lead characters on a multiversal romp that is sure to bring plenty of chaos and laughs.

Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around and I look forward to seeing you next time.
