This week I will look at issue one of “The Pedestrian” from Magma Comix, an off-beat superhero story starring none other than The Pedestrian, a strange visitor who speedwalks into Summer City and silently changes the lives of its residents. But not all is quiet in this sleepy, small town where an ancient conflict linked to the secret history of street signs is brewing!

Remember that “Malcolm In The Middle” episode where Hal takes up race walking with such a child-like enthusiasm?! Well, this series reminds me of that particular episode… only this hero is serving up justice with decency (he doesn’t speak at all!!) while focusing on the little things that go to the wayside such as helping someone find a parking spot or being a Good Samaritan while the creative team of Joey Esposito and Sean Von Gorman work their magic when it comes to transforming Summer City into a city that highlights the struggles the residents have in not having a way out when it comes to fulfilling their hopes and dreams, however it’s a city that is hiding many mysteries that hopefully will be fleshed out throughout the series that in turn could possibly makes it different than Gotham City or even New York City in the Marvel Universe.

Quirky and absurd are the two words that anyone would use in describing this series because this is a story that definitely takes the superhero genre to strange heights. Hence, if you take “Daredevil” and “The Tick” and then mix it with “Twin Peaks” -you have a magnificent yet brutally weird hero in The Pedestrian.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
