This week, I’ll look at Marvel Adventures Spider-Man # 20 in honor of Halloween. It features Hawkeye and…..The Frankenstein Monster!! That sounds like a great story right?!? Let’s find out.
We start things off with Spidey coming to Hawkeye’s aid as the latter puts the kibosh on an arms deal but when they come across a large crate that Hawkeye opens, lo and behold it’s The Frankenstein Monster! The situation gets out of control real quick when Hawkeye opens up the crate and lets the monster loose, and that’s when both Spidey and Hawkeye get caught up in an Abbott and Costello adventure that’s flat-out hilarious while making sure the action is on point; The story itself moves fast since this is a done-in-one issue, but it shouldn’t let that turn you off from enjoying this story as the Halloween setting, mixed in with the slapstick factors as well as the innovative take on a classic Hollywood monster makes for a fun yet refreshing story.
I feel like this is the type of story that R.L. Stine could have written during the “Goosebumps” heyday. Still, since it features superheroes and with Peter David on scripting duties, it’s a known fact that a story of this magnitude looks to be a fan favorite for the Halloween season.
Well, that’s it for me this week. I’ll be back with another Halloween story to close out the week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
