Has anyone seen the Werewolf By Night special from Disney+?! Well, this week I’ll look at Marvel Adventures Spider-Man # 17 which features a very amusing story between Spider-Man and Werewolf By Night. I should also point out that this issue was written by none other than Peter David, who jumped on this series to write a few issues.
After enduring a not-so-frivolous moment at a homecoming event, Peter Parker finds out that Flash Thompson has been bitten by a werewolf and transforms into one, after changing into Spider-Man and quickly subduing him, he takes him to Doctor Strange who tells him that the only way to cure Flash of this werewolf curse is to bring him a lock of the werewolf’s hair that bit him so he can use to create a potion…… and he needs it by sunrise if they want to cure Flash according to Romanian law. Spidey heads to an abandoned house where he runs with Jack Russell -The Werewolf By Night!
This issue somehow took all the cheesy yet predictable elements one would find in a werewolf movie and turned it into an entertaining romp that never feels like a choir to get through, but I feel that’s one of the benchmarks of every story that Peter David has a hand in as his knowledge of the Marvel Universe as well as his complete understanding of Spider-Man that makes this one, as well as the other stories he’s penned, very compelling while delivering on the old-school factor where it comes off as being very delightful. This issue may have moved fast for a done-in-one issue but it’s a Spider-Man story that gives the readers something new when it comes to having Spidey face off against someone other than the villains in his rogues’ gallery all while opening him up to the greatest aspects of the Marvel Universe. A fun read if you enjoy Superheroes and Werewolves coming together.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will be back with another Halloween-inspired story.
