This week, I will examine “LA Strong: A Charity Corner for Victims of the Los Angeles Fires,” a special one-shot from Mad Cave Studios that benefits those who lost their homes in the fires that devastated Los Angeles in January of this year.
Featuring prominent names such as Brian Azzarello, Greg Pak, Marc Guggenheim, Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Marv Wolfman, Frank Tieri, and Stephanie Phillips, among others, this special highlights the beauty of L.A., from its larger-than-life atmosphere to the entertainment industry, while acknowledging the dismay of comic book fans whose local shops were temporarily closed during the fires. Furthermore, this one-shot focuses on the brave firefighters who fought tirelessly to extinguish those raging flames and save the homes of many L.A. residents, leading to both positive and negative outcomes. The heartbreak and anguish resonate throughout this special as a tragedy that will forever be a dark mark in modern history. However, there are also bright moments, such as a glimpse into the L.A. pro wrestling scene from Joanne Starer and J. Gorzo, a Cyanide & Happiness feature, and a lighthearted chapter of “The Pedestrian” by Joey Esposito and Sean Von Gorman. The fires devastated homes and shattered the sense of safety for L.A. residents. Still, because of the herculean efforts of Mad Cave Studios and the creators behind these stories, Los Angeles will emerge stronger than ever while reminding readers why this city remains a shining example of excellence.
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
