Now that it’s November, this week I’ll take a look at JSA # 54 that shows a brilliant but more relaxed team up with the Justice League of Society and The Justice League as they come together to celebrate Thanksgiving.
The story itself plays out like a cross between an episode of “Justice League Unlimited” and a Hallmark Channel movie as both teams come together for Thanksgiving dinner and the respect that both teams have for each other shows how special and unique the DC Universe is, as I feel like this is without a doubt the one universe where the heroes practically know each other but the friendships that they forge comes off as extremely wonderful, I love the opening scene where Mr. Terrific tries to tell Batman that nothing will go wrong in the form of a villain or two attacking them, not on Thanksgiving, but in typical fashion, the dinner party gets an unexpected visit from both Kulak The Sorcerer and The Warlock of YS. Needless to say, the two of them were completely outmatched….and for good reason. Don Kramer’s artwork is dynamic and it also exhibits more of the quieter and heartwarming moments captured in this story.
This issue will remind everyone what an outstanding writer Geoff Johns was back in his heyday as his crisp dialogue and the ability to bring out the best in the characters that he writes is compelling but proclaims his love for the DC Universe so that the readers can experience that for themselves and this issue will forever be one of the most noteworthy issues from his JSA run.
Well, that’s it for me/ I’ll be back with another review for next week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
