This week I will look at “G-Men United # 4” the latest anthology series showcasing the best of the G-Man Universe heroes. Anthology series, for the most part, can be blotted or lose their spark after a few issues. However, thanks to the spectacular talents of Rik Offenberger and the creative teams he put together the stories in this issue bring tons of fun that gives every character their moment in the sun. Offenberger’s Atomic Bombshell story delivers that Marvel method of storytelling with some modern-day flair to it that demonstrates the importance of her personality while putting her heroism front and center; The Vencejo/Pollita story (that follows up from the events from Lynx # 4) does wonders when it comes to making the continuity of the G-Man titles that much stronger while at the same time continues putting a unique twist on the whole BATMAN AND ROBIN concept but with a more lighthearted appeal to it.
The “Tales of Otherworld” feature shines thanks in part to it being more like “Game of Thrones” with some Jack Kirby influence added in; The story itself works within the confines of this series to where you can’t wait for the next installment, I should also add that Ron Williams’ art has that distinctive Ron Lim vibe to it that makes the story come alive; Lastly, the Taranis/Tyr feature delivers on the action and at the same time, it’s not afraid to have some fun therefore making it the highlight of this issue that shows Taranis and Tyr are no Thor or Hercules rip-offs by any means but hoping these two would get together for future installments.
G-Men United brings out the best in their characters never finding them as background filler but instead, making it known that they are heroes for the next generation of readers.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
