This week, I will examine issue nine of “Epitaphs From The Abyss” from Oni Press/EC Comics.

The issue starts with the usual format of three terrifying stories of slaughter and misery, as this issue has enlisted the talents of such as Brian Azzarello and David Lapham, who unveil the darker yet gritter side of being an exterminator, then Christopher Cantwell and Peter Krause detail a young man coming up in late 1930’s Brooklyn who has a genuine love for Baseball that delivers a demonic twist. Finally, Michael W. Conrad and Christopher Mitten tell a story of a loveless marriage that turns bloody. These three stories never stray away from offering up the brutal and gory components that come with an EC Comics title while making sure the readers catch their breaths after they reach the ending. Still, perhaps the one that comes off as the most intriguing and hair-raising installment is the Christopher Cantwell/Peter Krause tale that puts a terrorizing spin on America’s pastime that may change anyone’s outlook on the game itself, but it also makes “The Natural” and “Field of Dreams” feels like a pair of B-grade slasher movie thanks in part to the chilling narrative from Cantwell and Krause. The latest issue of “Epitaphs From The Abyss” is once again living proof that Oni Press is keeping the EC brand alive and well and offering quality horror stories that will leave your blood cold but will have you back for the next issue.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
