This week I will look at “Chilling Adventures Presents….Truth Or Dare # 1” from Archie Comics. Trula Twyst comes to Riverdale as a new student but her mysterious and quiet nature does not mix well with the squeaky-clean façade of Riverdale High. Tormented by her past and strong interest in Behavioral Psychology, she dismantles the traditional high school hierarchy. How? With a simple game of Truth or Dare…
The premise of this issue is exciting to where it will keep you intrigued thanks in part to the psychological aspects that playoff with perfection, but the fact that everything gets resolved towards the end (**NO SPOILERS**) while setting up an entirely different story feels like a complete cop-out because this plot could have been stretched out for a few issues seeing as how it has the interesting factor due to Ron Robbins’ writing (I’m sure he watched the “SAW’ movies as well as “American Psycho” for inspiration) and the artwork by Laura Braga where she always brings such style and grace with a strong sex appeal as a bonus. Great read, but cutting it short did it no favors, and perhaps the creative team could come back somewhere down the road to make good on this mishap.
