This week, I’ll take a look at Avenging Spider-Man # 17 that features a lighthearted yet adventurous team-up between The Superior Spider-Man (Who, at the time, had Doctor Octopus’ mind in Peter Parker’s body) and The Future Foundation.
The Time Variant Authority (Who are heavily featured in Disney+’s “Loki” series) discover a threat that may destroy the space-time continuum due to a project being designed by Bentley-23 (A clone of The Wizard) so The TVA brings in Death’s Head to eliminate the problem but with Spider-Man around, things get out of hand pretty fast. The action sequences are very fun to look yet but also gives the story some much-needed adrenaline after seeing Superior Spidey get chummy with the Future Foundation in the first few pages and I also enjoyed seeing Death’s Head make an appearance here as I always felt like he didn’t get that much love after the folding of Marvel UK.
This is a very fun issue of Avenging Spider-Man, and working in the TVA the way that Chris Yost did really made this an issue worth checking out, and the artwork by Paco Medina and Juan Vlasco made this story feel very vibrant, but it’s a shame that they couldn’t be this title’s regular art team because I feel like they bring so much enthusiasm and energy to whatever title they’re working on. This truly is a great story that shows the TVA is an important staple in The Marvel Universe.
Well, that’s it for me this week. I’ll be back with another review so thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
