I will look at a forgotten gem from the 90s- namely The Adventures of The Mask, this week. Based on but not adapted from the hit Saturday morning cartoon as well as using elements from the 1994 movie, Life in Edge City has always been tough for good guy Stanley Ipkiss. But now that Stanley has the ultra-powerful artifact, the mask, it’s. . . well, tougher! And to make matters worse, everybody wants the mask, including Pretorious, the villainous bad guy, and Walter, the mute monster (Who makes their debut in this opening issue)
This series is remarkable when it comes to taking all of the surreal and chaotic bits of The Mask that fans of the Jim Carrey movie will enjoy; However, the comedy factor will definitely have anyone in tears with laughter while reminding anyone with a fondness for Dark Horse’s titles why The Mask is unique in his own weird way so when you read any his stories or this particular series (it went to six issues), it’s never a dull moment while being the type of comic that any comedy enthusiast would love……and yes, the villains is these series are indeed bizarre, but it’s The Mask so I’m sure everyone already knew that and be ready to re-watch any old Tex Avery cartoon with a new outlook. It could surprise you.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
