Once you grow up — and age doesn’t matter, it’s an emotional maturity thing — once you grow up, the big joy at Christmas comes from seeing how delighted others are with their gifts. You don’t give them something so they’ll thank you (though that’s nice), you give them something they want because you love them and you want them to be happy.
And human beings being human, a lot of times that nice new shiny present is smashed or broken or damaged before the day is out. And your heart aches for the person who lost what they so desperately wanted…
God’s love and God’s grace through Jesus Christ is His great gift to us. He doesn’t want anything from us, He just wants us to share it freely, the way He shared it with us.
