They say “Don’t ever meet your heroes.”
That’s certainly what they say- but IF you love talk radio like I do and you’ve ever lived in the SoCal area you’ve no-doubt heard THE MO KELLY SHOW, and if you’ve heard it, you’ve loved it. It is engaging, intelligent, classy, sophisticated, and most importantly… FUN. It’s just a damn good piece of audio and because of that quality, I’ve always been a fan.
I know good radio, I’ve been the Program Director and ultimately the General Manager of a non-commercial 3000 watt FM radio station outa northwestern Pennsylvania and plus my damn BA is in Communications. Many years ago, while at WonderCon during their live remote, I met TAWALA SHARP the producer of aforementioned show and I told him about some body-positive comedy shows (read: buck ass naked!) I was producing, he was intrigued enough at the idea and he booked my appearance on the show.
We thought it may go a segment or two… but after flowing well enough on air we went the full hour! I had brought Lahna Turner, a lady comedian that was headlining my naked shows, with me and it was a blast. Mo was everything I’d hoped he would be. Salt of the Earth. Solid dude. We kept in touch, and a year or so later I was back in studio promoting a short story I had published in CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL: Random Acts of Kindness and again I was told most likely we’d go a segment or two… well we bantered, laughed and argued about Dr.Strange until the hour was up yet again. I’m tickled at those facts.
Since then I was also invited on their podcast NERD-O-RAMA (available now on iHeartRadio, iTunes, & wherever podcasts are found), on one appearance I was talking about a project I did with CLIVE BARKER and I just got called on it again earlier today… This time I was blabbing about this Saturday’s upcoming WORLD NAKED BIKE RIDE in Los Angeles, California among other topics.
Because getting naked in public is a thing I do.
