Move over Carrie Bradshaw, Archie’s Kevin Keller has made his big move to New York City! All done with college, Kevin is ready to put his journalistic chops to work at a high-profile news channel. New place, new job, new neighbours … Kevin has really got his act together. Or has he? Will the big city eat him alive? Will the changing reality of broadcast news crush his dreams? Will faulty plumbing wash away his enthusiasm? Just when Kevin thinks he has everything back under control another Riverdale alumni knocks on his door.
Archie comics are currently going through a revamp. New titles with all new #1s, new writers and new creators all trying to rejuvenate the Archie characters. But there is a small yet very vocal population of fans that are not happy about this. They yearn for the DeCarlo-esque art that was the house-style at Archie for decades. They want the fun loving, innocent stories they grew up with. This issue delivers. Dan Parent is a veteran of Archie comics and it shows. The classic Archie art style, the amusing shenanigans and fun interaction of characters are all there for long time fans to enjoy. But the new surroundings of New York City still bring a freshness to the story. The colouring is done in only two colours, black and blue and while it wasn’t my favourite I found the lack of colour did not distract from a fun story.
