As a huge fan of WWE, of course, I am really excited about this weekend’s Wrestlemania. It’s the Sports Entertainment’s biggest event of the year and a time where the company pulls out all the stops, provides jaw-dropping moments and sets up confrontations for the coming year.
This Wrestlemania is an odd mix. It seems as though a lot of the top matches feature wrestlers that we don’t regularly see in the ring. So it makes it hard to get invested in matches where one of the opponents is a “special guest” not seen too often.
I’m a little disappointed the New Day won’t be wrestling. Instead, they are “hosting” the show. Hopefully, that means more airtime for the lads.
OK, I’ll break down the matches, with my thoughts and who I think is going to emerge victorious from “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match – Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries
Neville has proven himself to be a bad ass lately. I like his new angry man demeanor. This lean no-nonsense version has come across as someone who determined and one not to be messed with. Neville is a machine and there is no way Aries is going to go the distance. Oh, I’m sure he’ll but up a fight but, I think Neville is going to send Austin back to the George Michael cover band he escaped from.
My prediction: Neville.
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match – Champion Alexa Bliss to defend against all female SmackDown LIVE Superstars.
This is a tough one to call. All of these girls are very powerful. I can see pretty much see any of them taking the title. It’s going to be hard for Alexa to retain the championship. Her biggest concerns are going to be Becky Lynch and Natalia. I am really torn on who I think is going to win, but if I were going to put my money on it I would say Natty for the win.
My prediction: Natalia
The Fourth Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal – Featuring Big Show, Sami Zayn, Braun Strowman, Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley and more Superstars
There are a lot of dudes going into this Battle Royal, but the one that stands out the most to me is Dolph Ziggler. He should be higher up on the card, if not main-eventing. I really want him to win and will be rooting for him, but Strowman is just a monster and it’s going to come down to him and Big Show. Unless Ziggler can steal this one, Strowman is the obvious choice even though they have been giving Show a lot of love lately.
My prediction: Braun Strowman
Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Ladder Match – Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Cesaro & Sheamus
Well, one thing is for certain, I don’t see Gallows & Anderson retaining the titles. Amore & Big Cass may show off some amazing ladder skills or seasoned pros Cesaro & Sheamus are going to dominate. I think the fans are going to solidly be behind Amore & Cass, but I would bet on Cesaro & Sheamus. Now get ‘em Fella!
My prediction: Cesaro & Sheamus
Intercontinental Championship Match – Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Baron Corbin
This is another match that can go either way. Corbin has been on a solid streak and shown he’s got the skills, winning the title would be fitting. However, as goofy as Ambrose comes across, he’s still a strong wrestler. I don’t see him losing the belt just yet.
My prediction: Dean Ambrose
United States Championship Match – Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kevin Owens
I like both of these lads, but when it comes down to it I think Jericho is going to dominate this match. Owens is strong out the gate, but Chris just has too many moves and holds (over 1,000 of them). That and Jericho is a smart dresser.
My prediction: Chris Jericho
Raw Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match – Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax
This is another tough one to call. All four of these women bring something different to the ring. Each one has their own special talents that work for them. On one hand, Nia Jax is a tank and has crushed everyone she’s come across, but Charlotte is also a powerhouse with a lot of abilities. Banks has proven she has what it takes to be champ and Bayley is having a nice go with it. All of these women would be fitting of the title, but I think Bayley will retain the championship.
My prediction: Bayley
SmackDown LIVE Commissioner vs. The Phenomenal One – Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles
AJ Styles. I can’t really see this going any other way. AJ is probably one of the best wrestlers in the industry right now. And while Shane is known for his daredevil stunts, there is no way that can compete with Styles’ talents.
My prediction: AJ Styles
Non-Sanctioned Match – Seth Rollins vs. Triple H
Hmm, for some reason I’m not all excited about this match. Undoubtedly, I think it will be good, but I wish Rollins would be involved with something more tangible, like for a title. I’m just not invested in this one. I am rooting for Rollins though. Here’s to hoping he’s back main eventing for the championship soon.
My prediction: Seth Rollins.
Power Couples Collide – John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse
Oh come on now. As if Miz & Maryse ever had a chance. There is no way that the powers that be are going to let their “Totally Bellas” stars lose. Unless it’s a swerve and something to drag out over the next season of the “reality” show. But I highly doubt it.
My prediction: John Cena & Nikki Bella
The Phenom vs. The Big Dog – The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns
Dear lord, please let The Undertaker win. LOL I am not a huge fan of Roman, and yes, I am one of the people that boo him at the live shows. BUT he is the future of WWE, so I am not doubting a win over The Dead Man. While the WWE has pleasantly surprised us when it comes to Reigns before (like when Rollins cashed in his Money In The Bank and stole the belt away from Roman a couple of years back) I can’t see Roman losing at this Wrestlemania even when it’s to The Phenom.
My prediction: Roman Reigns.
Universal Championship Match – Goldberg (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
This has been an interesting angle. Lesnar who has always been shown as an unbeatable beast has been squashed by Goldberg anytime they have come face-to-face as of late. I hope that was just building up Goldberg to be a formidable opponent. I would hate to see Lesnar jobbed out in less than 5 minutes. No, this is where he gets his retaliation. I can see this being a knock-down, drag-out fight.
My prediction: Brock Lesnar.
WWE Championship Match – Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Randy Orton
I don’t know how I feel about this match. It seems to have come out of nowhere. Wasn’t Randy mates with Bray up until a couple of weeks ago? Now they are rivals fighting over the WWE championship. While Bray is proving to be a strong champion, I feel as though this is all been a set up to have Randy walk out of Wrestlemania with the title. I think that’s how the show is going to close.
My prediction: Randy Orton.
