So–I am going to be real here–I’m suffering from a bout of impostor syndrome…
But, flight and hotel booked for Anaheim : )
Sat March 29th, 2025 @5:30PM, ROOM 208 Anaheim Convention Center WONDERCON!
…now that I’m done with shameless self promotion…
I was feeling the need to read some comics and write about it.
And–here we are.
Assorted Crisis Events.
Three strong words.
Sounds your mind can’t just skip.
Which, after my last review, is quite refreshing.
To be fair, I was a bit rawr rawr that day.
Again–I was not discounting homeboy’s talent; and, I am looking forward to his universe’s lore.
But–I was hoping to find something really striking this week.
ASK! AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE!
The title does something else, besides cementing its syllables–asks, “what the hell is even that?” (google for reference)
So the narration goes on and on and on and I’m half way in, waiting for the plot, then realize, no.
This isn’t a simple introductory exposition, it is storytelling.
Okay, I am now intrigued.
Next comes the realization of how clearly and concise the protagonist’s voice is heard.
I literally had to stop reading for a moment, at this point.
This man is a writer.
And–a very good one.
As I mentioned in my last article, apparently some folks do not have an internal monologue.
I am currently a delivery driver for work, so I spend about 40+ hours a week driving around miles of circles, alone in the dark.
I kind of stopped listening to music a few years ago, so I listen to ALOT of creepy pasta and short story narrations.
About three days ago, this one story had its protagonist hearing voices and said something along the lines of, “this voice wasn’t hazy like my internal monologue,” and I was like, “OMG! Is that true?!”
I know it was just a story but it is most likely the writer was expressing their own experience, rather than relaying how someone else might perceive the world.
So, not only do some people not hear one at all, some people do but it’s hazy.
I, on the other hand, do not have thoughts without constructing fully complete sentences to accompany them.
It’s rather obnoxious; trust.
But—the art is so good, you don’t even need words to understand how Ashley is feeling.
So, to be completely immersed in a character is momentous.
Frame paneling is different almost on every page, along with the coloring.
These guys definitely had fun working on this project and it shows.
Image’s press release boasts a team of all-star creators, then delivered.
[We eatin’ good tonight, bois.]
I hate to even include this because the book is so good, but, sometimes humans have brain stutters when writing and unfortunately Image’s Editors just seem to count on the talent to not make mistakes verses justifying their own jobs:
happy nerding and support indie <3
