A new appointment on the annual pop culture calendar to celebrate the legacy of the beloved television pioneer.
After a soft launch in 2021 as people were taking their first tentative steps outside the house, Gerry Anderson Day is back in 2022 to cement its position on the annual pop culture calendar!
Taking place April 14 to commemorate the birth of the legendary children’s television pioneer (who would have been 93 this year), the day is set to celebrate the many amazing characters, creators and concepts he introduced the world to.
From the jaw-dropping puppetry of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Terrahawks to the live-action exploits of Space 1999,UFO and Space Precinct, Anderson Entertainment and GerryAnderson.com invite fans old and new to (re)discover these incredible stories through a series of special events.
Starting with its global premiere at BFI Southbank on April 9, there will be an early screening of the groundbreaking new documentary, Gerry Anderson: A Life Uncharted, which is co-produced by The Format Factory and Anderson Entertainment. The film will then embark on a national theatrical tour while making its streaming debut on Britbox from April 14.
Following Gerry Anderson Day and the Britbox launch, the film will be shown at The Electric in Birmingham (the UK’s oldest working cinema) on April 15 at an exclusive sold out screening event hosted by Jon Culshaw, which leads into a live recording of the Gerry Anderson podcast and a screening of Thunderbirds Are Go! the following day. The weekend culminates with the gala performance of Stand By For Action! Gerry Anderson In Concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall on April 16.
From the soaring themes of Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds to the psychedelic strains of Space 1999 and UFO, this unique concert event will take you on a musical journey through Anderson’s remarkable career – bringing new life to his early creations, Torchy The Battery Boy and Four Feather Falls, and a fresh appreciation for his later work on Space Precinct and New Captain Scarlet. This concert is not to be missed, and fans are encouraged to book now to avoid disappointment!
One lucky fan will also have the chance to win a pair of tickets to the documentary screening and podcast recording at The Electric, as well as the Stand By For Action! concert, with accommodation in Birmingham for both nights.
