HAHA # 5– I’m really loving how this anthology series flows with ease thanks to the stories in this book and this one is no expectation; This issue follows an elderly clown named Pound Foolish who meets a young kid Billy who has to go into Pound’s house to steal something so he can gain acceptance in a club called Mid-Yard Mischief Club so once he enters Pound house, he’s suddenly transported to G.K. Chesterfield’s Traveling Circus
and then gets a plate of Cauliflower Casserole for good measure.
This story has tons of grace and does a perfect job of showing a character that can find solace in the fact that they can live in the past for a short time, so this issue of “HAHA” will indeed make you reach for a kleenex box or at the very least, make you reminiscence about a period of your life when things were simple.
Heroes Reborn: Young Squadron # 1– This one-shot will make you remember the silver-age Teen Titans with fondness as it brings that vibe of young heroes doing good with the gifts bestowed upon them; I really like how this issue established all three characters right off the bat with their backstories without using too much exposition, plus I really got a huge kick out of Kamala Khan, Sam Alexander and Miles Morales in their roles as Girl Power, Kid Spectrum and The Falcon respectively. Steven Cummings is a tour de force with his art, making it reminiscent of Mike McKone but adding his own style, and Jim Zub’s writing is still top-notch, making it a true offspring of his “Champions” run; Heroes Reborn: Young Squadron is the book for you if you enjoy a good comic with such wonderful teenage heroes in the mighty Marvel manner.
Milestone Returns Infinite Edition # 0– Every now and then, DC Comics can surprise us, readers, with something cool and the return of Milestone Comics to the forefront definitely fits the bill; This special showcases new status quos and beginnings for such beloved Milestone characters such as Icon & Rocket, Hardware, and of course, Static Shock. It’s an amazing sight to see such artistic heavyweights such as Denys Cowan and Chriscross back in the fold and Reginald Hudlin (Who made a name for himself by writing stories for Marvel such as Black Panther and Marvel Knights: Spider-Man) hit it out of the park with the new direction that’s been established for Milestone.
While we wait until the imprint to begin rolling out new issues, this special serves as a new gateway for new readers to discover these wonderful characters all while paying loving tribute to the late Dwayne McDuffie.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man # 26– The new Clone Saga, which was tailor-made for Miles Morales continues to wreak havoc on his life, even with Peter Parker dropping in to have his back and give such sage advice and after reading this issue, I have a feeling that things will get even wild so this new arc is a great way to discover Miles Morales’ adventures as Spider-Man.
Stargirl Spring Break Special # 1-This is a comic that I was definitely looking forward to and it did not disappoint; Seeing Stargirl team up with her stepfather Pat Dugan a.k.a. S.T.R.I.P.E. as they join forces with The Seven Soldiers of Victory against The Clock King really made for a fantastic story and the combination of Geoff Johns and Todd Nauck is a special worth your time and money as this collaboration really brings the best out of both gentlemen. This special even hints at something big for The Justice Society of America (**NO SPOILERS**); If you want a comic that brings the fun of those annuals that DC used to bring out then look no further than the Stargirl Spring Break Special because you’ll have a blast reading this.
Well, that’s it for me this week. I’ll be back next week so thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
