Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 – Have you ever read a strange comic just for its weirdness? Look no further than Absolute Martian Manhunter, as the latest addition to the Absolute line takes everything you might know about J’onn J’onzz and turns it upside down. FBI agent John Jones has a near-death experience during an explosion, and soon after, he begins to recall memories of his past while experiencing bursts of bright colors deep within his mind. Deniz Camp’s script spins a cosmic tale full of mystery and intrigue that will undoubtedly engage readers while leaving them with numerous questions. Camp and artist Javier Rodriguez mix Steve Ditko-esque elements with some Grant Morrison themes, enhancing the story’s strangeness. Martian Manhunter may not be a household name in the DC Universe, but this title presents him in a new light. Even if some fans have to endure the bizarre characteristics on display, it’s not traditional superhero fare, and it makes for a strong start.

Batman #158 – IT’S HERE!!! The official sequel to “Hush” (or “H2SH”) has arrived, reuniting the team of Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair to deliver an explosive story that echoes the original while carving its own path halfway through the issue. It opens with Batman preventing The Joker from dumping poisoned fish into the water supply, taking a turn for the worse when the Joker gets kidnapped and tortured, leaving Batman on a wild goose chase only to discover that Hush is back! Right out of the gate, this issue features a strong beginning, thanks to well-crafted action sequences and a close look at Batman’s moral compass, delivered in a way only Loeb can manage. From the looks of it, neither he nor Lee has lost their touch, with artwork as brilliant as ever. While Hush’s presence is minimal and this opening chapter serves more as a Joker story, let’s hope the rest of the installments honor the original and truly feel like a sequel.

Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 – Godzilla begins his battles in the Marvel Universe, with his first encounter with The Fantastic Four being nothing short of… well, fantastic (couldn’t resist). It’s a fast-paced showdown that fully embraces its Silver Age roots (the story is set during the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby era), featuring the typical Godzilla battle along with another Kaiju entering the scene. Current FF writer Ryan North brings his A-game to this smackdown, even integrating the “misunderstood monster” angle regarding Godzilla. While it doesn’t introduce anything new to the story, it serves as a stark reminder, with the use of Sci-Fi elements adding a wonderful touch. The true blessing lies in John Romita Jr.’s art, which injects a dynamic force into the story, demonstrating that he can produce great work when inspired. The dialogue may feel as if Stan Lee ghost-scripted this one-shot, but this mix of nostalgia and Kaijus makes for an enticing read, leaving us eager for Godzilla’s other battles in the Marvel Universe.

Harley Quinn: Fartacular – Silent Butt Deadly #1 – Yes, this one-shot has a distinctly foul scent (don’t inhale if you’re sensitive), and yes, the story revolves around women farting as Harley attempts to win back Poison Ivy, thanks to one tiny fart coming between them (No… I’m not making that up!). Be prepared for an abundance of fart jokes running throughout this tale, which embraces its absurd premise with pride. While this isn’t the first time DC has ventured into a scented issue (can you recall the Harley Quinn Rub-and-Smell annual from 2014?), it is undoubtedly the grossest comic to date. Proceed with caution, and remember to turn up your nose or, better yet, buy some nose plugs—you’ll need them!

Ultimate Spider-Man #15 – Spidey and his family are on the run after the events of issue #14. This issue introduces the Ultimate incarnation of The Sandman (who has a simple but intriguing origin **NO SPOILERS**) and showcases Peter teaming up with his son Richard (already stepping into his role with the suit Peter got from Iron Lad) to confront Sandman in a back-and-forth battle that lacks the fast pace it could have had, which is disappointing given its potential. However, this issue sets up future subplots, such as Richard’s role as a hero and his growing friendship with The Black Cat, further solidifying the series’ strong presence and ongoing excellence each month.

Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you next time.
