NEW COMICS 4 THIS WEEK (12/09/20)
*All comics will be rated on a scale from 1 to 10*
Amazing Spider-Man # 54– I vaguely remember this Simpsons episode where Bart and Milhouse were talking about an issue of “Radioactive Man” in which R.M. and Fallout Boy ended up dying on every page! Well, this issue of ASM pretty much went to town on that concept with Spidey and Kindred as the latter ended up killing the former (and kept bringing him back) every chance he got; It does come across as brutal and used as a way to full up an entire issue, but I can’t ignore this new twist in the Peter Parker vs Harry Osborn saga of good against evil where we see Harry embrace of the identity of Kindred instead of falling back into the Green Goblin persona so that’s a huge plus and I feel like this issue was a waste of some perfect art by Mark Bagley so I’m hoping that the remainder of “Last Remains” will get back on track instead of giving us an issue like this one.
Spider-Man # 5– The J.J./Henry Abrams and Sara Pichelli series comes to an end as Ben’s battle with Cadaverous is filled with thrills and some OMG moments (**NO SPOILERS**); and I have to say that both J.J. and Henry Abrams really delivered a solid ending to a series that had some hits and misses and with the way it ended I really wish we could have gotten some more issues because there is some definite potential in seeing the son of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson-Parker follow in his father’s footsteps as a new Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler
but only time will tell when the Abrams’ will be back so for now, this issue was a great read.
Superman: Endless Winter Special # 1– Let me say that after you get done reading this special, you’ll definitely have to give both Ron Marz and Andy Lanning some major props for this one as it’s a spectacular Superman story from beginning to end even though it’s the next installment of the “Endless Winter” crossover, it was amazing. Even the narration by Lois Lane via an article she’s writing is a great touch and a perfect way to move the story along, and it was a blast to see Phil Hester & Ande Parks providing art on a DC comic as this special harkens back to their groundbreaking run on Green Arrow back in the 2000’s so this special alone is worth both your time and money as it’s 10X’s better than the stuff that Brian Michael Bendis is giving us at the moment.
Tales From The Dark Multiverse- Flashpoint # 1– These Tales From The Dark Multiverse specials continue to be impressive and this one really raises the bar in terms of storytelling and artwork; I really enjoyed seeing The Reverse Flash be the main focus on this new take on the 2011 event that helped give birth to The New 52 (The only bad thing about that event); This special shows what a master storyteller Bryan Hitch is as his writing continues to be excellent and his artwork is always a joy to look at. After reading this, I really wish this would have been the direction that DC went for instead of The New 52, because it would have been more exciting.
Wonder Woman # 768– I like how Liar Liar is being built up to be one of the most dangerous WW villains to date and seeing her take center stage made for a great story, and I really geeked out over the Wonder Woman/Deathstroke sequences which were flat-out awesome and looking forward to seeing what comes next is another reason to love reading Wonder Woman.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time. Happy Holidays.
