Absolute Superman # 2 – The modern-day remix of Superman and his mythos continues to be extraordinary on all levels as the stellar creative team of Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval (easily putting out the stops in the art department) gives us another fascinating look at Superman’s powers (his cape is by far the most interesting aspect of his suit **NO SPOILERS**) while presenting a more intriguing look into the powerful dynamic he has with Lois Lane that is looking to be explored as time goes on not to mention exploring Kal-El’s teenage years on Krypton that adds such wonderful layers to this new iteration of the Man of Steel that both classic and new fans will enjoy. While the Boy Scout element of the character has been eliminated, all the core factors of Superman that make him a true symbol of hope are always there… it’s just exhibited in a new yet exciting way.

All-New Venom # 1– While it’s great to see a new Venom series that doesn’t feel like anything that you would see from the Tom Hardy movies, as well as the strong artwork provided by Carlos Gomez (He’s without a doubt the next big talent coming out of Marvel), and the series excelling with the action sequences, it feels like the excitement of yet another host in the Venom symbiote has worn thin even with Al Ewing, arguably one of Marvel’s strongest writers at the helm, the series quickly loses steam because Ewing presents three suspects in Robbie Robertson, Luke Cage and Rick Jones (Whom Ewing utilizes to perfection in a way that would make Peter David proud) but right out the gate, the whole secret identity mystery does not make a great impression even if some past examples were done right (Hobgoblin and Red Hulk to be exact) that Ewing does a great job of fleshing it out with the dialogue, it’s the execution that hits the ground with a tremendous THUD! Yes, it’s only the first issue, and Ewing has time to correct this dud, so let’s hope he can bring the full scale of brilliance in the only way he can, but in time he can make Venom great again.

Deadpool/Wolverine: Weapon X-Traction – The eight-part story that ran in installments through every Marvel title a few months ago gets collected in a stylish one-shot as both Deadpool and Wolverine come together to stop the universe from falling apart as they travel to various earths from the Multiverse and end up killing multiple characters and fighting each other but in the process, they end up making a mess….even if they don’t realize it; It’s great to read this story in one collection, but right away the premise falls flat due to the excess killings and the ongoing plot thread of Deadpool desperately wanting to be Wolverine’s bestie (It’s funny but gets stale after a few pages), but it does seem like this was easily put together to satisfy fans of “Deadpool and Wolverine” while getting comic fans ready for their ongoing series that starts next month. While this one-shot has plenty of humor, it’s just another cash grab for Marvel that will bring in fans of these two characters, but the only memorable thing about this one-shot is that it exists and that’s that.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man # 27 -From the looks of it, it feels like this team-up between Miles and T’Challa feels like the usual attempt for attention, but so far, it’s a great read that sees the execution of the story come off as strong as ever and the fact that these two have such brilliant chemistry while the mythology of Wakanda is presented in such an epic fashion that the readers will take in every aspect of that portion of this issue so it’s safe to say that this current arc has not been a disaster but it opens the door to more special Miles/T’Challa team-ups that could be greater than this one.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
