Amazing Spider-Man # 60– During his run on ASM, Zeb Wells introduced us to Mary Jane’s new boyfriend “Paul” then giving her superpowers, making Tombstone a Kingpin-level threat and reinventing Ben Reilly in the most villainous way ever in the form of Chasm so now it’s the End of an Era as Wells say goodbye to this title that he’s been writing since 2021 with a main story that features a battle with The Sandman and Wells takes the opportunity to wrap up some plot threads while giving us a touching moment between Peter and Aunt May but before he says his goodbyes, Wells teams up with collaborators Ed McGuinness (For a Rek-Rap tale that leans on the goofy side), Todd Nauck on a Spider-Man/Jackpot team up story while Paolo Rivera joins Wells for a tale set in the “Brand New Day”-era that features Spidey and Wolverine celebrating the latter’s birthday at a local bar and Patrick Gleason returning for a Chasm story that sure to cause ripples soon and finally, incoming ASM writer Joe Kelly teams with Mark Buckingham for a teaser to the upcoming “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” that’s sure to draw the ire of fans and critcs alike but Kelly always has a goond handle on Spidey so i’m not that worried about this new era that’s coming our way; While i will admit they were some not-so-good moments that lurked within this title, this issue of ASM highlights the good moments in Zeb Wells’ run and his farewell issue is by far his best work to date so while we say goodbye to one era, this issue will stand out as the best ASM issue of the modern era.

Captain America # 14– J. Michael Straczynski reunites with Spider-Man and Thor for an epic Warriors Three arc that will turn heads. Still, while this issue sets up the arc, it moves at a slow pace to where there’s no momentum and puts too much focus on dinner plans and how heroes relax on a Saturday Night (apparently with Netflix) so for the most part, JMS has gotten this arc off the runway in the most boring way possible especially when you take into account all the dialogue he crams into a page that doesn’t do this issue any favors other than giving Cap and most of the characters plenty of word salads to digest and with that, this issue being a swing and a miss, let’s hope that the next issue will bring out the best in JMS’ storytelling strengths while showing how great it is to see a Cap/Spidey/Thor team up for the ages.

Ultimate X-Men # 8– Eight issues in, and this new iteration of the X-Men is finally coming together, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t quite sync up with the rest of the Ultimate Universe, and that’s due to the questionable actions that Peach Momoko displays in her writing because while her art is always solid, most of Momoko’s plotting seems disjointed and often feels as if it should be a completely different title instead of treating it as an X-Men story. For the most part, some good elements are enjoyable when reading, but afterwords it’s time to face the truth that it’s not in the same world as the rest of the Ultimates. If you’re a hardcore Peach Momoko fan, you can enjoy this series, but if you love the earlier version of Ultimate X-Men, then you should play the waiting game until Momoko gets The Children of the Atom to unite.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around, and i look forward to seeing you next time.
