I Love Comics (Blah, Blah, Blah….)

NEW COMICS 4 THIS WEEK (09/18/24)
*All comics will be rated on a scale from 1 to 10*

Dazzler # 1
Spider-Boy Annual # 1
Spider-Man: Black Suit And Blood # 2
X-Factor # 2
X-Men # 4
Ultramega # 5

Dazzler # 1– This is by far one of the most eccentric entries for the “From The Ashes” relaunch because if you or anyone else is looking for a top-notch action comic then this isn’t it, instead it’s an all-out love letter for the character despite not getting any love over the years and what’s fascinating about this premier issue is that gives the readers a more lively outlook outside of the X-Men’s world while displaying more of Dazzler’s background as a pop singer (She’s got a world tour and a hit album- all she needs now is a Travis Kelce lookalike); Yes, the Taylor Swift comparisons are on point but it’s a fun romp that delivers on building on the relationship between mutants and humans that can only be achieved through pop music (Yes, it’s weird but let’s go with the flow) and while there is no new ground to be broken nor is there any hope of revamping Alison Blaire because writer Jason Loo is taking a stand on the “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!” approach when it comes to crafting this series. Hate it or love it, it is off to a great start.

Spider-Boy Annual # 1– This “Infinity Watch” entry finds Bailey Briggs facing off against Multitude, who has the Soul Stone, and Prince of Power, who has the Power Stone, and what I found to be the most likable aspect of this annual is that it continues to bring the light-hearted and action from the regular series and apply it to a crossover that’s now overstayed its welcome and I say that because while the Infinity Watch had promised it just lost focus after the first few annuals especially now that summer’s over but while Steve Foxe is no Dan Slott, he does, however, do a wonderful job of maintaining Bailey’s voice throughout the annual that in turn makes this an annual worth reading, too bad the “Infinity Watch” crossover made a huge presence that can’t go away.

Spider-Man: Black Suit And Blood # 2– The second issue in this unique anthology series does a great job of approaching the theme of the black costume with such edginess and dark overtones which can be found in “The Edge of Rage” by Erica Schultz and Marcelo Ferreira (Which saw Spidey beat down Morbius and telling off Flash Thompson) and “Shock and Awe” by Greg Weisman and Javi Fernandez that finds Spidey “fighting” The Shocker (He was asleep and the Symbiote decided to take over) but the one story that stands out the most of “Burgers, Fries and Blood” by Dan Jurgens and Chris Sotomayor that focuses on Spidey and Daredevil teaming up against Bullseye that comes off as action-packed but the light-hearted elements really help in making this a worthy entry and serve as another reminder that Jurgens knows how to tell a great Spider-Man story no matter the continuity nor the moody setting that is well-known for this anthology. These stories from the first two issues as well as the ones that will come after this one give us a very strange look between Peter Parker and the symbiote but we do get such dark and eccentric stories that add more layers to a very disturbing time in Peter Parker’s life.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
