Batman/Superman: World’s Finest # 30– Heading back to familiar territory, Mark Waid, along with guest artist Glen Melnikov, weaves a story set in the past as Batman, Superman, and Robin head to Paradise Island for their first adventure with Wonder Woman that brings out the mystery and action to new heights that once again show why this is one of DC’s most beloved titles to where it puts a new spin on the classic era of DCs Silver Age while giving readers a great appreciation on the chemistry between Batman and Superman so I have to say that this is one of the most powerful one-shots in this title’s run while giving us what could be a classic Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman story for the ages and being a wonderful preference for anyone having fatigue to the “Absolute Power” event.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man Annual # 1– This annual puts the focus on Miles Morales’ trip to Puerto Rico to visit his Abuela and intertwines with two separate stories featuring guest starts Storm (This one had a lasting impression even if it was short) and Bloodline, playing off from the events of “Blood Hunt” but it’s the opening story featuring Miles and his Abuela that is the true main attraction as it revels in its heartwarming moments while giving the readers a better look at Miles’ family that helps in not comparing him to Peter Parker while teasing us with a crossover that is sure to turn heads (**NO SPOILERS**); This annual is an entertaining fare that Miles Morales fans will sure to digest with ease.
Predator Versus Black Panther # 1– From the looks of it, Predator Versus Black Panther may come across as a cash grab to some fans. Still, after a few pages, it’s clear that it’s an action-packed romp that keeps the suspense going with each page. To his credit, Benjamin Percy has created a story that takes two different franchises and combines them to where the stakes couldn’t be any higher for T’Challa and Wakanda as a whole; Another element that I enjoyed the most is how this issue manages to pay a small homage to the classic 1987 movie (with T’Challa playing the role of Dutch) that in turn made this a crossover worthy of anyone’s time while showing that Marvel is out to make a mockery of the Predator franchise.
Ultimate Spider-Man # 8– Most of the plot in this issue may center around Peter and Mary Jane celebrating the twins’ (Richard and May) birthday, many fans may think that the quality may have dipped a little but that’s far from the case as this series keeps getting better and better especially when the fans will awe at the debut of the Kingpin-chose Sinister Six (Some of the members will leave you speechless to say the least) and the shaky allegiance between Doc Ock and The Green Goblin is promising and many shake things up further as time goes on. Once again, Jonathan Hickman’s writing is sharp and whimsical, showing how much fun he’s crafting this new contemporary world for Spider-Man that shines every time an issue comes out. Thanks to its refreshing take, Ultimate Spider-Man is still a winner.
Wolverine: Revenge # 1– Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo unite to tell a brutal superhero story starring everyone’s favorite X-Man; This issue opens up as an odd entry in the Marvel Universe continuity where a team of villains comes together to turn Logan’s world upside down to where the only thing on his mind is- Revenge! Is it violent and blustering?! Yes, but Hickman manages to lay out the stakes and motivating force behind his story that flows with ease along with the usual strong artwork from Capullo himself that gives the readers an insightful look into their strengths that works that makes it a strong debut for a Wolverine story that’s as gory and unique as this one but it. Still, itet us know that the best (and more violence) is yet to come.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
