Black Panther: Blood Hunt # 1 – T’Challa as a vampire may seem like a horrible yet boring concept to explore but somehow it works within the confines of this mini-series as T’Challa struggles to fight off the bloodlust even though at times it feels unfortunate, just experiencing it makes this a compelling read that brings out the best in T’Challa without going for the whole “hero verse horde of vampires” aspect that tends to get tiresome. Hence, this is a story that will never wear out its welcome.
Hellverine # 1– Ghost Rider and Wolverine fused into one being! 90s kids can rejoice because this is definitely the series for them; Ben Percy takes a concept that was decades in the making and delivers an adrenaline rush of a story that finds this character slashing through any sinful villain that crosses his path with his flaming claws; Even if we tend to take a rather unconventional way to address such topics as government cover-ups and creepy priests but Percy manages to make it cohesive while making sure the concept never suffers nor gets off the rails. Is this a series worthy of your time?! YES because while it looks ridiculous, it reveals its hellish conceptualization to great results and it’s always wonderful to see Percy again at the top of his game.
Ultimate Spider-Man # 5– This issue dives into the untold origin of Harry Osborn aka The Green Goblin; Right away we see how Jonathan Hickman fleshes out Harry’s backstory to where we know whose side he’s really on but the fact that Harry is the Goblin and now fighting on the side of good I feel is the perfect way to make him relevant after years of his 616 counterpart always getting the short end of the stick so this is by far a refreshing take on a character who’s sole purpose was to be Peter Parker’s best friend. The new take on Doc Ock is intriguing as he’s more of a toned-down version of Sheldon Cooper with great potential (Since he wants everyone around him to know that) and Hickman’s take of Gwen Stacy is more exciting than the version we all saw in the 616 universe (Not to mention “Spider-Man 3” which once again sees the remixing of Spidey’s supporting cast and villains has another positive factor in the success of this series. This issue is certainly setting up for the finale of the first arc, it was fascinating to see Harry’s story be told with dignity and it’s definitely worth waiting to see him pop up in any future stories. Ultimate Harry Osborn is simply spectacular.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
