I Love Comics (Blah, Blah, Blah…)

*All comics will be rated on a scale from 1 to 10*

Amazing Spider-Man # 42
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest # 23
Black Panther # 8
Cobra Commander # 1
Daredevil # 5
G.I.Joe # 303
Invincible Iron Man # 14
Jackpot # 1
Miracleman: The Silver Age # 7
Superman # 10
Wonder Woman # 5

Cobra Commander # 1– Image Comics’ Energon Universe continues to take shape with the release of Cobra Commander. Hence, this premier issue explores his origin in a way that’s never been done before since he became a prominent character in the 80s cartoon due to his desire to take over the world, so it looks like this issue explores his motivations. Still, Joshua Williamson wants readers to know that C.C. is the ultimate bad guy. This story revels in the violent scenes as well as a splash page that’s sure to excite any G.I.Joe/Transformers fan (**NO SPOILERS**); The Commander’s origin story feels like a plot element leftover from a DCU movie and doesn’t have the big impact that “DUKE” had when that series debuted but if you’re an Energon fan then makes sure you check out the next issue because I’m sure it will fire on all cylinders, unlike this particular
issue.

Daredevil # 5– This very well may be a joyful Daredevil/She-Hulk team-up that features them hitting up many lunch spots while coming face-to-face with Mister Hyde; The chemistry between them is more wonderful than their MCU versions and while Matt himself gets more than he bargained for by being possessed by a sin, this is a series that continues to bring readers back into the fold while wondering what will happen next.

Jackpot # 1– Can anyone imagine Mary Jane Watson as a superhero?! It’s true as she adopts the Jackpot persona (Previously used by Sara Ehret during the “Brand New Day” era) for this “Gang War” tie-in; Right away, it’s a great concept that has strong potential due to MJ and her partner Paul being the Marvel version of Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis but this is the perfect way for MJ to be seen in a new light besides always being looked at as a typical foil for Peter Parker but her super heroics makes this a fun story to get lost in and with this new version of Jackpot being front and center, the character’s future looks bright.

Superman # 10– Yes, Superman finds himself back in the old west and Marilyn Moonlight gets a fair amount of screen time for her to shine as a character so that’s an absolute plus for Joshua Williamson’s work on this title and I can not forget the Silver Age aspects with the return of Terra Man that doesn’t feel like a “Back To The Future III” rip-off but offers such wonderful moments that you can’t help but enjoy; Bruno Redondo may not be Jamal Campbell but his artwork takes any concept that Williamson puts in his scripts and brings them to life in the most spectacular way. This issue is another crowd-pleaser, even with the cliffhanger ending (**NO SPOILERS**) so now’s the time to be a gigantic Superman fan.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
