Action Comics # 1051– The Super-Family takes center stage in this issue as it ushers in a new era for The Man of Steel and his loved ones. Phillip Kenedy Johnson delivers a story that brings out the very best of Superman and his cast but it also introduces us to a more robust version of Metropolis that I feel has never been seen before. Sure, Metallo lurks in the shadows but the last page of Johnson’s story will, sure enough, will get everyone’s attention (**NO SPOILERS**); Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks reunite for a “Lois & Clark” story that serves as a great reminder that if it wasn’t for these two gentlemen paving the way for what came after their run (Not counting the Bendis stuff): Finally, Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage debut a new Power Girl story that brings her back after being shelved for so many years. The story itself is okay but hoping that it would lead to something bigger. Action’s new format is a fresh start for this title since it’s mainly been a Superman vehicle (I’m going to pretend “Action Comics Weekly” doesn’t exist) and with the focus going to the rest of the Super Family, this is the perfect time to jump onto this series as it really emphasizes the word “Action” to perfection.

All-Out Avengers # 5– These are the reactions I have after reading this issue- WOW!!! AWESOME!! AMAZING!! SIMPLY BRILLIANT!! I always knew this battle could never happen but here we are- The Avengers vs…The Amazing Spider-Man! It seems that everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler is being manipulated and The Avengers have to stop him; Right away Spidey makes Earth’s Mightiest Heroes look like chumps as he takes them down one by one (I was shocked); This is a great homage to those classic silver age stories and by far the best issue to come out of this series, even Greg Land’s art comes off as looking stylish. Darek Landry has been surprising the readers who buy this title as this one is an absolute hit. If you want to see Spider-Man at his best then by all means, check this issue out.

Amazing Spider-Man # 18– Before “Dark Web” reaches the finish line, this issue of ASM does its best to balance the weirdness that’s been presented in the last few issue such as Spidey, along with J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson, being stuck in hell.
Yes, most of this issue puts the spotlight on Rek-Rap, a scrawny demon who got his own symbiote grafted onto him (Think Venom if he was a character from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon) and I’m sure Marvel is going to give Rek-Rap his own title or action figure (This could happen); Chasm gets a new name and title thanks in part to Hollow’s Eve (**NO SPOILERS**); This issue revels in the action but storywise, it feels like a real letdown with nothing the focused more on the “Treehouse of Horror” elements rather than the crossover (Although The X-Men show up sporadically in this issue); It’s only time before “Dark Web” actually gets to the finish line…..but in this case, I’m sure everyone is rooting for it to end and looks at it as another Spider-Man/X-Men crossover that’s just unwarranted.

Junkyard Joe # 4– Just like the previous issue, Junkyard Joe is getting reacquainted with Morrie “Muddy” Davis, the cartoonist behind his strip and yes, most of this issue plays like a very depressing episode of “ALF” and it seems like the rest of Morrie’s neighbors are starting to notice Joe hanging around. I guess this is Geoff Johns’ way of giving us a “Calm before the Storm” story until his intentions for this arc kick into high gear but for the most part, this issue tends to drag but pays off towards the end, which is the only bright aspect about this issue. Praying that this next issue returns us to the excitement from the first issue and we get to see Joe in all his glory but hopefully, the slow burner stories from this issue will be the last.

Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around and I will see you all next time.
