I’m a member of the Canadian Comic Book Alliance. The CCBA is a network of Canadian independent comic book creators brought together to highlight all the amazing work that is being done in many different corners of Canada. One of the ways that our membership reaches out to the comic book community is through a variety of podcasts.
My own podcast, The Hey Kids Comics Radio Show is available right here at First Comics News as well as on your phone with Google Play Music or Apple iTunes. A group of longtime comic reading pals share hosting duties on The Hey Kids Comics Radio Show broadcast live on Trent Radio 92.7 CFFF FM in lovely Peterborough, ON Canada every week. Join Dan Collins, Marty Boruta, Chris Gilpin and Sam Tweedle as they rant and rave about the hobby they love. Given I’m involved it wouldn’t be right for me to review the podcast but let’s just say it’s a hoot and a half to do each week.
Another great podcast that I tuned into is also from a CCBA member. Super Pulp Science Podcast is a “weekly podcast in which creative professionals G.M.B Chomichuk and Justin Currie (Chasing Artwork) explore the ingredients that go into a life working in their studio making art, writing stories and making graphic novels. Interviews with other industry newcomers and professionals compare and contrast different approaches and philosophies of living a creative life.” I tuned into episode three which featured G.M.B. and Justin chatting with guest Donovan Yaciuk offering insight on how to present your work at comic conventions for appraisal and pitching your work to publishers and professionals. The anecdotes are great and the conversation insightful.
Unlike radio stations that have to program to the largest possible audiences, podcasts let you focus deeply on a specific genre or topic. If you haven’t’ tuned into a comic related podcast you might be missing out on some fun and informative entertainment. Be sure to check out some of the other podcasts featured here on First Comics News as well as these two great, if I do say so myself, offerings from the CCBA membership.
