*Excellent, fun, story. Easy spoilers.

Clayton Lowe is headed back to his small Southern hometown. His new friends from grad school are about to meet his old friends from high school and discover that something may have finally changed in the town where nothing ever changes: Pine Cove is ground zero for an infestation of body-snatching alien-bugs. Time to bury the past. From Cody Ziglar (Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Spider-Punk, Futurama) and Ryan Lees (Rick & Morty) comes a body-snatching splatter-fest of horror and humor!

If you’re into schlocky horror and love a blend of humor with body-snatching alien chaos, “Goobers #1” is going to hit all the right notes. Vault Comics has delivered yet another horror treat, and this one, written by Cody Ziglar, brings a mix of nostalgia, gore, and small-town strangeness. Ziglar’s tale follows Clayton Lowe, who returns to his Southern hometown of Pine Cove, and let’s just say, things have changed—alien bugs have turned the quiet town into their playground. His new grad school friends are about to meet his old high school buddies, but that’s the least of his worries.

Ryan Lee’s art is perfect for this horror ride. His style has this crazy, cartoony energy that works wonders when paired with creepy-crawly aliens. If you’ve seen Mountainhead, you know exactly the kind of detailed, wild vibe he brings to the table. Lee’s illustrations are reason enough to grab this book; it’s like he was born to draw horror like this.

The story itself is a splatter-filled homage to old-school horror flicks. If you’ve got a soft spot for movies like Night of the Creeps, Slither, Slugs, or Grabbers, you’ll find yourself right at home with Goobers. It’s fun, freaky, and a little bit gross in all the best ways. The mix of humor and horror is pulled off nicely, and the pacing keeps things moving fast, leaving you itching to see what the next issue has in store.

Vault Comics has a solid history of putting out great horror stories, and this one doesn’t let you down. If you’re a fan of B-movie madness, retro-style creature features, or just love a good dose of alien chaos, Goobers #1 should definitely be on your list to check out.
